Education Standard Development Committee

An older adult is reading a book to a young child.

The Accessibility Advisory Board established a committee of members with expertise in education to develop  recommendations for an accessibility standard in education. This includes making the education system accessible so students with disabilities have equitable access to education.

The Education Standard Development Committee developed recommendations in 2 phases. The Accessibility Advisory Board submitted the recommendations to the Minister of Justice in 2020 and 2023.

These recommendations are being used to prepare Nova Scotia’s accessibility standard in education.

Phase 1 recommendations for accessibility standard in education

The Education Standard Development Committee Phase 1 Recommendations in American Sign Language (ASL).

Phase 2 recommendations for accessibility standard in education
